The Cava Bomba's furnaces
The limestone quarries of the Euganean Hills supplied the kilns of the major center of Padua, Este and Monselice; in the second half of the nineteenth century, thanks to the improved conditions of the road network, the plant of lime kilns was convinient also in many peripheral place near the quarries in the Hills (Marendole, Lozzo, Baone, Bastia di Rovolon, etc.). The Cava Bomba plant is among these the most impressive complex in the production of Euganean Hills' lime. The first plant is represented by a tipical shaft oven, dating back to the last decade of the XIX century (the exact date is not known); later the production was increased with the building of two other kilns incorporated in a massive sqaure-based building. The optimal path designed for the tour, guided or autonomous, is supported by a sequence of educational panels that illustrate the structure and the operating of the kilns and the sequence of the production process.
